The Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® Treatment
Restoring your gums with the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® technique can be a great way to improve gum health and appearance without invasive surgery and long recovery times. Dr. Joseph Willardsen and our team of dentists will start the procedure by having your teeth and gums thoroughly cleaned. Then, he will numb your gums with a local anesthetic and use a small dental needle to create a tiny hole in the soft tissue of the gums. A special instrument is used to dislodge and loosen the tissue. The gum tissue can then be draped over more of the teeth, covering any exposed tooth roots. Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation®, also known as the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™), can be performed on multiple teeth in a single visit. One tooth usually takes about 20 minutes to treat. Your dentist will place collagen strips within the gums between the teeth to help stabilize the tissue’s new position. No incisions or stitches are necessary for this procedure.
The Recovery Process
Many of our patients are pleasantly surprised at the instant results they receive from this procedure. One of the major benefits of Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® is that you will not likely need to take excessive time off to recuperate. Typically, the small pinhole heals itself by the end of the day. Compared to the extensive downtime you would need to take after getting a surgical gum graft, the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® treatment typically has a very short recovery time.
The procedure is minimally-invasive so you should not experience excessive discomfort during or after the procedure. Your teeth and gums may feel sensitive, but you should be able to eat without any complications within a few hours.
