Las Vegas Dentist Uses Biomimetic Materials To Conserve Natural Tooth Structure

Dr. Joseph Willardsen is specially trained in innovative biomimetic dentistry techniques that can replace traditional metal fillings and help prevent root canals or tooth loss.

Las Vegas, NV – As people age, their teeth tend to become more susceptible to serious dental issues that require crowns, root canals, or artificial tooth replacements. Dr. Joseph Willardsen, a cosmetic dentist in Las Vegas, is using innovative biomimetic materials and techniques at True Dentistry to help preserve and protect the natural structure of teeth and prevent the need for these more invasive procedures. Trained at the Alleman-Deliperi Center for Biomimetics, Dr. Willardsen specializes in conserving and strengthening teeth that have become compromised by damage or decay with long-lasting results that look natural.

Many of Dr. Willardsen’s patients want to learn how to avoid root canals and maintain healthy teeth. While routine brushing, flossing, and professional dental exams can help prevent common concerns such as cavities and gingivitis, there is no guaranteed safeguard against tooth decay. When a filling is needed, Dr. Willardsen explains that biomimetic materials have many advantages over traditional metal amalgams. “Metal fillings can actually allow bacteria to re-enter the tooth cavity, cause more decay, or even lead to tooth loss,” notes the certified biomimetic instructor. However, he explains that biomimetic fillings can bend and flex with the tooth, offering enhanced strength and protection.

As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Willardsen uses biomimetic techniques to preserve as much of the patient’s natural tooth structure as possible when remedying substantial tooth decay. For example, using a fine fiber mesh, he is actually able to line the tooth structure from the inside out for improved strength. Traditionally, a dental crown would be used to resolve this condition, necessitating that the tooth be filed down in order to properly receive the crown. According to Dr. Willardsen, his Las Vegas dentistry patients suffering from chipped, worn, damaged, or decaying teeth can benefit from these biomimetic techniques and address structural concerns more conservatively and effectively than ever before.
